Serving our Community
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
John 15:12
At Bishop Thomas Grant School, we follow this commandment of Jesus to live our lives with a commitment to the less fortunate of our brothers and sister. Through being committed to works of charity, we are developing in or pupils their understanding of the responsibility that has been placed upon us to do what we can to show our support and love of all members of God’s family.
The School has a strong tradition of service to others. Throughout the year our pupils are given plenty of opportunities to put their faith into action by taking part in activities organised by their house, such as Carol Singing, Christmas Hampers, Easter Fair and Poppy Day. Many of our pupils are also active in the Police Cadets. Pupils, with the help of parents and staff, use all their talent, humor, ingenuity and business acumen to raise lots of money and have a huge amount of fun at the same time.
The school supports the work of various charities. Each house is assigned a charity Nominated Charities.
In 2023/24 the pupils raised: £10,249.38 |
The Spires Centre – Luke House
Spires is a South London based charity that helps hundreds of homeless and disadvantaged people all year round. We work to improve the quality of life of people who are homeless, insecurely housed, unemployed or suffering from the effects of poverty, mental ill health and loneliness. We offer a wide range of help and developmental services through our day centre in Streatham and Streetlink outreach sessions throughout South London. Our aim is to enable our service users to move away from the chaos of the streets and towards a brighter and more stable future.
The Children Trust – Mark House
The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. It works with children and young people from across the UK. Its vision is for all children with brain injury to have the opportunity to live the best life possible.
Kids for Kids – John House
KIDS FOR KIDS helps children the world has forgotten, children in Darfur, Sudan, who live lives of inexcusable and unimaginable hardship. Its key project is a goat loan – it does not believe in charity, it believes in enabling people to help themselves. Children are malnourished in every village. Many have had no protein, minerals or vitamins for months on end which not only means lasting damage to them physically but their IQ is reduced, often irreparably. Goat’s milk transforms a child’s health.
Salesian Sisters – Matthew House
Provide education especially for disadvantaged young people across the world.
