A level Results Day 2024 - Success in the Digital Era for Bishop Thomas Grant School Sixth Formers
Thursday 15th August started early with Bishop Thomas Grant School Sixth Formers arriving at the school hall to celebrate their A level results despite the online availability of their university status on UCAS online (from 6.00a.m!). Our photo above shows Emma, Hannah, Santiago, Matthew, Patrick, Bwalya and Tamra modestly celebrating the massive 24 A and A* grades between them which are destined to take them to the country's top universities. Amongst these, Head Girl Bwalya (pictured once again below right, with Sixth Form Study Supervisor, Ms Baptiste) will go to Cambridge to study for a degree in Classics, Patrick to Oxford for a Physics degree course, and Emma will qualify as a doctor in 5 years' time after earning her place to study medicine at Aston university.
One student who didn't check his results at home was Eryk, who bravely volunteered to open his results in front of his teachers to reveal his three A* grades - more than enough to take him to Warwick university to study mathematics!

Students have applied for a huge variety of subjects this year for example two friends Weronika and Laurinta (pictured above left) have chosen very different pathways as Laurinta goes to the Royal College of Veterinary Science to study Bioveterinary Sciences and Weronika departs for Warwick university for her degree in Psychology.
Of course, not all our students are now choosing to go to university like Finn (pictured above) with his mum and the Head of Economics, Mr Amakye, who turned down his university offers after winning a degree apprenticeship with top accounting firm EY (formerly Ernst & Young), and Daniel, who will be joining another of the ‘Top 4’ finance firms, Deloitte. Daniel commented: "I am keen to go straight into work, and earning a regular salary is a big incentive." This is part of an increasing trend as students now frequently apply both for university and for degree apprenticeships, like successful BTEC students and twins Verline and Verene, who will have plenty of post Sixth Form options. Verline has already chosen to study Law and Criminal Justice at Westminster university.
Overall the A level and BTEC results for 2024 are 100% equivalent pass rates A-E, 88% A-C and 32% A*-A . The average grade across all subjects is a B at A level and for BTEC subjects it is a Distinction!
In addition to the above results there were also nine Year 12
students who took their A level in Maths early so that they can focus on Further Maths in Year 13. Of these students, one achieved an impressive A grade and an astounding eight were awarded an A*! We look forward to this time next year when we are celebrating again.
Headteacher Ms Boyle commented," With exam boards reporting that grade boundaries have now returned to pre-covid levels we were always optimistic that our students' grades would hold up, and so it proved to be. Although there were more places in clearing this year the vast majority of our students have achieved their first choice destination, which is down to their dedication and hard work as students, and I am sincerely grateful to our staff and parents who have contributed so much to this set of excellent results. Well done!
