The Importance Of Reading By The School Librarian

Reading is a lifelong skill. It is not just something that children should do in school; it needs to be an everyday part of our lives, something we choose to do at all ages.
When you read a book you learn about the various facts and information described in the book. This is how you gain knowledge. The more you read, the more words you gain exposure to, and they will inevitably make their way into your everyday vocabulary. This will help to understand questions easily and better express your thoughts. With time, you will be able to improve your writing skills. Exposure to published, well-written work has a noted effect on one’s own writing, as observing writing styles of other authors will invariably influence your own work.  Both reading and academic achievements are connected with each other. By reading regularly and continuously students are able to gain more knowledge, improve vocabulary and writing skills, which will help to improve academic achievements to a great extent.
Research finds that reading for pleasure can result in increased empathy, improved relationships with others, and improved wellbeing. Evidence shows a correlation between reading for pleasure and lower levels of stress and depression. In addition to the health benefits, reading for pleasure has social benefits and can improve our sense of connectedness to the wider community. Reading increases our understanding of our own identity and gives an insight into the world view of others.
