Friends Of Bishop Thomas Grant – Food Bank

The Food Bank has been running now for about 7 months.  It runs from Bridges (the little house just inside the school gate) and could not have done so if it wasn’t for the kindness and generosity of our staff, parents, carers and neighbours.

The ethos of the school is very much about extending our hands to help those in need. We hope that we achieve this by helping to provide for our families who are financially stretched during the Covid-19 Crisis. Do visit if you need to, the Food bank is informal so you do not need to register. An email is sent weekly advising the timings of this provision. 

People have been wonderful, donating food, money and even organising large deliveries once in a while to help keep us well stocked up. Thank you also to the Premises staff at Bishop Thomas Grant who are often moving supplies around as they arrive. A big clap too for the Bishop Thomas Grant students who put together many beautiful hampers, with their form tutors, these were given out just before Christmas. We are sure that they were a welcome addition to many a household. 

As a committee, we have been busy approaching supermarkets to try to get donations and have registered with Fare Share London. Fare Share is a charity that tries to prevent food waste by redistributing food to other charities. We hope to be on their list soon. 

We are so grateful for your continuing support. If you would like to donate further we are always in need of tuna, sweet corn, pesto, rice, juice cartons, cereals, toilet roll and shower gel. If you work for a supermarket that would perhaps be willing to set up a donation box or if you have any other ideas that could help or would be able to join the Friends of Bishop Thomas Grant committee, then please contact us: friends@btg-secondary.lambeth.sch.uk.
