Black History Month Art Exhibition - by Angelina

“From the 16th to 20th November 2020 Bishop Thomas Grant School exhibited student art works under the theme of ‘Celebrating Black Culture in Everyday Life’.  An image of some of the works can be seen above.

Black History Month is a time when black people and their cultures can be appreciated and celebrated. 2020 is a year of unprecedented events, where I felt the media and society as a whole began to reflect on and acknowledge that we can be proud of black culture and truly celebrate it.

Black History Month made me realise how amazing my culture and race really are, it gives a sense of belonging and affirms my black identity. Bishop Thomas Grant School recognises that celebrating black history and culture should not be limited to just one month in the year, and I am proud to work within this school community. There will be more opportunities this year to hold further events and to become involved in them.
I believe that everyone can use Black History Month as a springboard to learning, and collectively as a community. It is our responsibility as Christians to embrace understanding and inclusion of everyone from a place of love and respect”.

Ms Murray said of the event,
“Can I thank Angelina in Year 13 and Mrs Halloran Pine for the wonderful Black Culture in everyday life art exhibition we have enjoyed this term. Our students have loved the wonderful pieces on show.  Angelina has been instrumental in planning and coordinating the exhibition”.
